 | Anatomy of Show | Dave Newman 2012 | We have hosted shows for Dave Newman every year since 2008 and this last week we wrapped up our fourth show. The shows have become more elaborate over the years, and have also become more successful. I thought it would be interesting to share step by step what we did to create this show, analyze what worked (and what didn't) and talk a little about what we might do next year for the show to make it even more successful. Dave is an artist based in Prescott, AZ, and he and Donna own a small, but very vibrant and active gallery/shop in Prescott on the town square. At the time, they were showing an artist that I also carry in my gallery and they brought several pieces by this artist down to Scottsdale for me to show. We had a great conversation when they stopped in and I saw a few of Dave's pieces and was immediately taken with his work. I was right in the midst of moving my gallery from our original location to our present space on Main Street in Scottsdale, so the timing wasn't right to begin representing him, but we instantly created a rapport and promised to stay in touch. It would be almost a year before we talked again, but when we did, Dave agreed to send some work down to Scottsdale for us to show. I wish I could say the work was an instant hit and started flying off the walls - what actually happened is that we promptly sold . . . nothing. Almost an entire year passed without so much as a hard nibble on his work. We communicated several times throughout the year and Dave provided us with new work to try to stir something up, and still no luck - the sales just wouldn't come. | Read the rest of this post on RedDotBlog.com | | | | | someone pass this on to you? join our mailing list! | | | Xanadu Gallery | 7039 E.
